Teresa Maria Bochwic was born in Warsaw on 11 September 1947. She is a graduate of Warsaw University and a journalist and columnist. She was an active member of the political opposition in the Polish People’s Republic. She has served as a researcher at Koźmiński University since 1999, and has been a member of the Board of the Polish Journalists’ Association since 2011.
She took part in the events of March 1968 at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Philosophy. From 1976 to 1982 she worked as a research assistant at the Philosophy Department of the College of Economics and Social Sciences at Warsaw University of Technology. In the 1970s she distributed the Workers’ Defence Committee (KOR) Information Bulletin and publications by the Movement for the Defence of Human and Civil Rights (ROPCiO), as well as the magazines
Gospodarz and
Głos and books by NOWA publishing house.
Bochwic was a member of the
Solidarity educational movement (1980-1981). She is the founder and editor-in-chief of the teachers’ monthly
Rozmowa. In 1981 she worked for
Tygodnik Solidarność (Solidarity Weekly) and
AS, the Solidarity press agency. She participated in the work of Solidarity’s Education Section and negotiations with the Ministry of Education. During the time of martial law (1982-1989) she was part of the underground educational organisations Committee for Social Resistance (KOS) and OKNO (Education – Culture – Science). She worked with the editorial board of
KOS magazine,
Karta, and for the
Karta Eastern Archives, she also cooperated with Radio Free Europe in Munich and the Paris-based
Kultura. During the years 1983-1986 she was a reporter for
Zorza, a Catholic weekly, and from 1986 to 1991 she served as an editorial assistant at
Nowiny Psychologiczne, published by the Polish Psychological Association. She served as a reporter for Radio Solidarni at Polskie Radio during the election campaign of 1989. She is a journalist and vice editor-in-chief of
Tygodnik Solidarność and the daily
Nowy Świat. She worked for the offices of President Lech Wałęsa and Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek.
From 2006 to 2009 Bochwic served as vice director of the Polskie Radio Programming Office, was a lecturer at the University of Warsaw until 2008.
From 2004 to 2008 she was a member of the Advisory Board of TVP S.A. departure of Warsaw, from 2006 to 2010 a member of the Advisory Board of TVP S.A. she was a member of the Media Ethics Council from 2008 to 2009, and a member of the Polskie Radio Advisory Board from 2010 to 2014. From 2013 to 2016 she was a member of the Polish Press Agency Advisory Board.
Bochwic successfully defended her doctoral thesis at the Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education in Warsaw in 2007.
She is a member of the Polish Journalists’ Association, the Association of Catholic Journalists, the Free Word Association and the Polish Psychological Association.
She was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by President Lech Kaczyński in 2006. She received the Distinguished Cultural Activist badge in 2000. In 2016 she was awarded the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity by President Andrzej Duda.
On 22 July 2016 Bochwic was appointed by the Senate to the National Broadcasting Council for a six-year term. She was elected KRRiT Deputy Chairman at the meeting of the National Broadcasting Council on 27 September 2016.
