Elżbieta Więcławska-Sauk was born in Łódź on 14 November 1947. She graduated from the Faculty of Polish Philology at the University of Łódź.In the fourth year of her studies, she won an announcer competition and started working with TVP Łódź. After graduation, she served as a reporter in the news department, and then in the opinion journalism section. After the imposition of martial law, she was fired for her involvement with the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union Solidarity. She ran the Solidarity Electoral Studio in 1989. In 1990 she returned to work at TVP Łódź, where she prepared original programmes on legal and social issues, e.g.:
Z kodeksem na ty (Knowing the Code),
Ciąg dalszy nastąpi (To Be Continued), and
Łódzkie Wieczory Publicystyczne (Łódź Current Affairs Evenings). She was fired again in 2001 for her programme on corruption in public television, despite the fact that it was based entirely on a report by Poland’s Supreme Audit Office.
Więcławska-Sauk was elected to the Sejm from the list of the Law and Justice Party (
Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS) in 2001, and in 2005 she became a PiS senator. In both houses of the Parliament she served as a member of the Committee on Culture and Media, where her duties included evaluating reports by the National Broadcasting Council.
She was a two-time member of the Programming Board of TVP3 Lodz.
On 22 July 2016 she was appointed by the Sejm to the National Broadcasting Council for a six-year term.
