Stefan Józef Pastuszka


Prof. dr hab. Stefan Józef Pastuszka– born on 21 August 1941. In 1965 he graduated in history from the Faculty of Humanities at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Was a teacher of history and Polish language in secondary schools. In December 1975 he successfully presented his doctoral dissertation at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw.

In 1975–1990 worked in the Teachers Learning & Education Research Institute in Kielce at the Institute of History. In 1983–1990 worked as its manager. Promoted a number of master theses on the subject of television, radio and press.

In 1991 obtained a postdoctoral degree. On 1 October 1992 he was appointed associate professor at the Institute of Library Science and Scientific & Technical Information of the Higher Teachers Training School in Kielce.

In 1993 was elected to the Polish Senate from Świętokrzyskie Voivodship from the Polish People’s Party’s list. In 1993–1997 was a vice-chairman of the Constitutional Commission of the National Assembly. He was also a vice-chairman of the Senate’s Commission for Culture, Mass Media, Physical Education and Sport. In 1994 –1997 was a vice-chairman of the Polish Parliament delegation to the Council of Europe. In 1995 – 1997 held the position of the secretary of state at the Ministry of National Education.

From 1993 till 1997 was member of the Programming Committee of Polskie Radio S.A., and in 1997 – member of the Programming Committee of Telewizja Polska S.A. In 2008 appointed to the Programming Committee of Radio Kielce SA. In 2003–2006 chaired the Regional Council of Świętokrzyskie Voivodship. At present, member of the Commission of National Education established by the minister of education, and also a member of the scientific council of the Central Military Library.

He has a significant academic and journalist record. His original achievements include publications on the role of culture and education in the Europe’s integration process.

Holder of a number of distinctions and awards, amongst others: Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, awards of the Minister of National Education, rector’s awards of different colleges and universities.
