European Platform of Regulatory Authorities in Cracow in 2013

25.09.2013
On 8-10 May 2013 Cracow hosted a meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA), an international organisation associating 53 regulatory bodies from the audiovisual sector. The meeting gathered approximately 150 representatives of those institutions from all European countries and also representatives of the European Commission, Council of Europe, the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and the European Audiovisual Observatory.

The meeting in Cracow and its plenary sessions brought discussions on the following topics: protection of minors in the integrated media society and the public media in a convergent society. Three dedicated working groups were focusing on: political advertising, local and community-related media and access to the media for visually impaired and hearing impaired persons.

The Conference was an internal, closed meeting of delegates of the regulatory authorities from countries associated within the Organisation.

Established in 1995

The European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) was established in 1995 in Malta, and the National Broadcasting Council is one of the founder members of that Organisation. EPRA constitutes a European forum of exchanging views on the national and European regulations within the audiovisual sector and on practical methods of finding solutions to problems that arise from the application and interpretation of binding regulations.

The EPRA meetings are convened twice a year in the member countries, and they are always considered to be a prestigious event for the host country. It was the first time for Poland to have hosted delegates of all the regulatory authorities. The National Broadcasting Council and the Cracow Municipal Authorities were the hosts of the Cracow conference.

The Conference of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities was well in line with the calendar of the 20th anniversary of the National Broadcasting Council, which is a body governed directly in the Constitution and which is in charge of the media governance in Poland.
